DU's Women's Tennis Tops Youngstown State, 6-1

Pittsburgh, PA - Duquesne's women's tennis team dominated Youngstown State 6-1 Thursday evening at the Tower Courts. The Dukes lost only one match, at number 6 singles, against the Horizon League school, winning all of the 13 other sets. The win raises the Red and Blue's record to 6-7 overall, 5-7 in the spring competition. The Penguins' spring record is 3-8.
Junior Alina Klinova led the Dukes with a win at number one singles and another in doubles competition teaming with classmate Katie Riedinger, who also was victorious at number two singles. Sophmore Sarah Shanahan and senior Leia Zingone won at numbers three and four singles, respectively, as well as teaming for a doubles victory. Sophomore Julie Wagner won at number five singles and then, combining with sophomore Cecilia Cardona, grabbed the final doubles set which enabled the Dukes to sweep those matches.
Shanahan continues to pace the Dukes this season with a 25-15 record -- 16-6 in singles --followed by Riedinger's 19-15 -- 12-5 in singles. Klinova has been undefeated in the last three matches and raised her singles record to 10-10, 7-5 on the spring. Zingone raised her spring record to 9-6 while Wagner evened her overall doubles mark to 8-8.
The ladies next host cross-town rival Pittsburgh (11-8) on Tuesday afternoon, Apr. 8th, at 3:00 p.m.
