RICHMOND - Aishwarya Kona's victory at #5 singles clinched the match for Duquesne leading the Dukes to a 4-3 victory over Richmond on Friday.
After dropping the doubles point, the Dukes got wins from Kylie Isaacs at #1 singles (4-6, 6-1, 6-3), Julianne Herman at #2 (6-4, 6-2) and Laurel Shymansky at #6 (6-2, 4-6, 7-5). Shymansky saved six match points coming back from a 5-1 in the third set.
The Spiders picked up wins at #3 and #4 singles.
With the match deadlocked at 3-3, the decisive point came down to Kona and UR's Kelsey Williams. Kona came back after losing the first set 6-4 to win the second set 6-4 and the decisive set 6-1.
UP NEXT: Duquesne (13-7) steps out of conference play to host #33 Virginia (7-10) on April 14th.
