AKRON - The Duquesne women's tennis team finished the regular season in style with a 6-1 victory at Akron Saturday afternoon. One of the conference's hottest teams heading into the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship, the Dukes have won six out of their last seven matches. DU finishes the regular season 12-5 overall record.

The match started off Duquesne taking the doubles point behind wins from the teams of Johanna Bezjak and Rachel McGowan who were 8-6 winners and Zena Williams and Rebecca Poole who won 8-2.

The Dukes won five of the six singles matches with Williams getting her A-10 leading 26th victory after a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. Bezjak dropped the first set at No. 2 singles 2-6, but fought back to take control of the match and win sets two and three 6-3, 6-4 respectively.

The same held true for Poole who lost the first set in a tie-breaker, but breezed through the next two sets 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Rachel McGowan was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 4 singles and Andrea Sailer won at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-4.

Duquesne will find out their seeding for the A-10 Championship on Monday. The event will be played April 18, 19 and 20 at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pa.
