Dukes Take George Mason 6-1

The Duquesne women's tennis team closed out its regular season Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 victory over visiting George Mason at the Oxford Athletic Club in Monroeville. The Dukes swept all three spots in doubles play and won five of six sinlges matches.

Jackie Hughes and Alicia McNamara took a 9-7 edge at first doubles followed an 8-6 win by Johanna Bezjak and Julie Wagner at second doubles and an 8-2 decision at third doubles by Sarah Shanahan and Ciara McDermott.

Bezjak posted a close 6-4, 7-6 win at first singles and Hughes won 6-4, 6-2 at second singles. Wagner took straight 6-1 sets at third singles and Shanahan won 6-2, 6-0 at the fourth position. McDermott took the final win (6-1, 6-1) at sixth singles. The only loss came by McNamra at fifth singles, 3-6, 4-6.

Duquesne ends its regular slate 5-6 for the Spring, 9-10 overall.

They next travel to the Atlantic 10 Championships April 22-24 at the Tennis Center at College Park, Md.
