Women's Tennis Advances at Atlantic 10 Championship

MONROEVILLE - The Duquesne women's tennis team defeated Saint Joseph's 4-0 in the first round of the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship held at the Club 4 Life.

The match started out with the Dukes sweeping the doubles point the teams of Johanna Bezjak and Rachel McGowan and Zena Williams and Rebecca Poole both winning 8-2 at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles respectively. Alexandria Albano and Lanna Buehler were winning at No. 3 doubles 7-5 before the double point was decided.

Bezjak (6-2, 6-1), Poole (6-0, 6-2) and Kristen Swenson (6-2, 6-1) took the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles matches before Williams (6-2, 5-0), McGowan (6-1, 3-2) and Andrea Sailer (7-6) completed their matches.

The Dukes advance to the second round to face Xavier tonight at 7:30 p.m.
