College Park, Md. - Duquesne University's women's tennis team dropped their Atlantic 10 Championships' third round match to #6 Dayton, 4-2, Saturday afternoon at The Tennis Center at College Park. Senior Sarah Shanahan and sophomore Jacqueline Hughes won singles matches. Sophomore Alicia McNamara was ahead when the Flyers clinched the win with their fourth point. Shanahan and Hughes are 2-1 at the tournament for the number 8 seed Red and Blue.

Dayton took the doubles point as Erin Kirkland and Courtney McDowell topped Shanahan and Hughes, 8-3, while Allysa Detroy & Kara Metzger edged out senior Julie Wagner and freshman Johanna Bezjak, 9-7. The third doubles set between DU's junior Sarah Shanahan and sophomore Ciara McDermott duo and UD's Kate Mellion and Megan Gray was suspended with the score tied, 8-8.

Hughes won her No. 2 singles match against McDowell, 7-5, 6-3, and Shanahan topped Mellion 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4 singles. McNamara was ahead of Metzger 6-0, 5-2, at No. 5 singles when that game was called.

Games are stopped at the A-10 Championships once the winner is determined.

The Dukes meet up against #7 Fordham at 8:00 a.m. Sunday, April 24, 2005, to determine seventh place. UD and GW also will battle at 8 a.m. for 5th place.
