Hughes Named First-Team All-Conference

PITTSBURGH- The Atlantic 10 Conference announced today that Duquesne University senior Jacqueline Hughes (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) has been named First-Team All-Conference. In addition, Johanna Bezjak (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) and Rebecca Poole (Swindon, Wiltshire, UK/New College) have been named Second-Team All-Conference.

Hughes, who led the Dukes in singles wins, posted a 21-5 record and finished 16-9 in doubles. She was named to the A-10 All-Conference for the second consecutive season.

Bezjak, the A-10 Player of the Week April 16, led the Red & Blue in doubles wins going 22-3 on the season. She had a 15-12 singles record, mainly at the No. 1 position.

Poole, who was named A-10 Player of the Week March 26, went 5-0 in singles for the Dukes in the 2007 Atlantic 10 Championship. Along with Hughes, she went 13-6 at No. 1 doubles in the spring season and 17-10 overall. She was one of three Dukes to surpass the 20-win mark in singles, posting a 20-10 record.

The Dukes had a best-ever fifth place finish in the 2007 A-10 Championship.
