Vanessa Steiner Named Director of Tennis
July 13, 2016
PITTSBURGH - Vanessa Steiner, who has been part of the Duquesne women’s tennis program for the past five years – including the last two as assistant coach, has been named director of tennis.
“We are very pleased to have Vanessa as our director of tennis,” said athletic director Dave Harper. “Throughout the search process, she continually described a clear vision for the program, specifically assuring a quality student-athlete experience. In addition, she has very detailed competitive aspirations and expectations. Our administrative team is looking forward to supporting Vanessa as she takes the reins of the program.”
Steiner came to the Bluff as a player in the fall of 2011 after graduating from Boston University with one year of eligibility remaining. In her only season as a Duke, she tied the program record with 36 total wins by a senior and was named Atlantic 10 First-Team All-Conference. The following two seasons, Steiner served as a graduate assistant.
In July 2014, Steiner was elevated to assistant coach. In her first season, she helped the Dukes improve from seven wins to 12. This past season, Steiner guided Duquesne to a school-tying-record 16 wins, the finial nine while acting as head coach.
Steiner will announce her men’s and women’s assistant coaches at a later date.
"I am honored to have the privilege to continue working with the Duquesne University tennis program,” said Steiner. “I want to thank athletic director Dave Harper, the administration, community and student-athletes for giving me this opportunity. I am excited for the future of Duquesne tennis and look forward to continuing to build the men's and women's programs."
"We have a great group of student-athletes who strive for excellence and represent the University with pride, on and off of the court," added Steiner.
Steiner graduated from Boston University in 2011 with a degree in elementary education. She received her master's degree in English as a Second Language from Duquesne in 2013 and is currently working towards her doctorate of education in instructional technology and educational leadership.
