Dukes finish first at the Gulden Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Duquesne’s women’s track and field team finished first out of nine teams at the Gulden Invitational hosted by Bucknell University.
Brittney Edwards was named the best field athlete after qualifying for the ECAC in both the long and triple jumps. She was first out of 12 with a distance of 39-2.25 in the triple jump, and second out of 12 in the long jump with a distance of 18-11.25. The distance for the long jump was her personal best.
Tacquaya Tobias also qualified in the long jump, jumping 19-9. Tobias earned the Dukes 20 points in the event, winning the 60M dash and long jump.
In the shot put, Ashley Adams threw 44-7 to qualify for the ECAC.
Danica Snyder and Jenna Gigliotti finished first and third out of 15 in the 5,000M run with times of 17:52.48 and 18:08.47. In the one mile run, Amber Valimont finished with the third best time of 5:03.83.
Anna Simone ran the second best time in the 500M with a time 1:18.61, earning the Dukes eight points. Haley Pisarcik and Amber Valimont also earned eight points for the Dukes. Pisarcik ran to a second place finish in the 1,000M with 2:58.85. Valimont finished second in the 3,000M run with 10:16.75.
The relay teams had much success in the invitational, winning the 4x800M relay (9:33.12) and 4x400M relay (3.55.70).
Sherie Key won the high jump with 5-06.50 earning another 10 points for the Dukes. In total, Duquesne finished with 177 points, tops among the nine schools participating. Host Bucknell finished with 139.50 points, and Lafayette rounded out the third place with 58 points.
Up next for the Dukes is the YSU Invitational this Thursday on the campus of Youngstown State University.
