Results

Lewisburg, Pennsylvania - Duquesne University's women's indoor track team won six first places and 11 medals overall Saturday at the Bucknell University 15th Annual Winter Classic held at the Bison's Gerhard Fieldhouse.

Junior Carrie Hucko (Wexford, PA / North Allegheny / Miami - OH) set a new Duquesne record in the mile with a time of 5:04.53. Hucko broke the mark of 5:07.05 set by Anne Granger on February 3, 2001 at the Kent State Winter Open.

Three freshman were included in the Dukes' first place finishers:

  • Freshman Ashley Cochran's (Vandregrift, PA / Kiski Area) time of 27.85 seconds in the 200 meters
  • Freshman Kerri Durica's (West Mifflin, PA / West Mifflin) leap of 11.28 meters (37' 0") in the triple jump
  • Sophomore Kristen Micsky's (Greenville, PA / Reynolds) high jump of 1.65 meters (5' 4")
  • Freshman Rebecca Stearns' (Rochester, NY / Brighton) time of 5:26.93 minutes in the mile
  • Junior Nicole Wiley's (New Castle, DE / Padua Academy) time of 8.38 seconds in the 55 meter high hurdles
  • DU's "B" relay team with a time of 4:11.33 minutes in the "4 by 400 meter" relay

Hucko also represents Duquesne in cross-country competition where she made the 2002 Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team with a third place finish at the conference championships this past fall. She also is one of seven A10ers who were named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team.

The Red and Blue will compete in the Atlantic 10 indoor track championships next Saturday, Feb. 22 in Kingston, Rhode Island at 2:15 p.m. in URI's Mackal Field House.
