Women's Track & Field Opens Season at the Fred Hardy Invitational

Richmond, Va. - The Duquesne women's track & field opened the 2007 outdoor season at the Fred Hardy Invitational at the University of Richmond this weekend. The Dukes won four medals during the two-day event.
The team of Elizabeth Graham, Samantha Howard, Katie Kelly and Carly Brickett took first place in the 4x800 medley with a time of 9:21.50, over seven seconds ahead of second place Pittsburgh and 22 seconds in front of third place Seton Hall.
Howard had a strong showing in the 1500 meter run as she captured a second place finish with a time of 4:34.93.
Melissa Stewart and Katie Kelly brought home bronze medals for DU. Stewart's discus throw of 39.74 was just 2m short of the gold and .5m short of silver and Kelly's time of 11:48.58 in the 3000m steeplechase was third best in the 11-person field.
Duquesne returns to the track Saturday March 31 as they head to Indiana, Pa. for the Western PA Intercollegiate Championships.
