DU's Women's Track Takes Second at Akron

Akron, Ohio - Duquesne University's women's track and field team finished second at the Akron Quadrangular Meet Saturday at Lee Jackson Field on the Univerisity of Akron's campus. The Dukes were just five points behind the host Zips' 171 points. Sophomore Kristen Micsky (Greenville, PA / Reynolds) and freshman Kerri Durica (West Mifflin, Pa. / West Mifflin) each captured gold medals in the long and triple jump competitions respectively. Micsky, who also finished second in the triple jump, led DU with 16 of the team's 166 points. All told, Duquesne captured 16 medals, inclduing four bronze, in the one-day event. The Dukes took all three citations in the triple jump and two in the long jump and the javelin throw. Also finishing in second place were juniors Carrie Hucko (Wexford, Pa. / North Allegheny / Miami-OH) in the 1,500 meter run and Erica DaCosta (Hudson, NH / Alvirne) in the javelin throw, and sophomore Ashley Cochran (Ravenna, OH / St. Thomas Aquinas)in the long jump. Next on Duquesnse's schedule is the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field in Philadelphia, PA.
