The Duquesne University women's outdoor track and field team turned in a fourth place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship. The Red and Blue posted a two-day team score of 98.50. Senior Shea McMillan (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) captured a silver medal in the triple jump with a leap of 11.89 meters (39" 0.25') which broke her own school-best effort of 38 feet 9.75 inches recorded at the 2002 A-10 championships which were also held in Richmond. Duquesne's 4 x 100 meter relay team set a new school record of 49.25, topping the 49:32 mark set earlier this year at the Bucknell Five-Way by Ashley Smith, Nicole Wiley, Melissa Blackburn and McMillan. [On Saturday, junior Sarah Fetterman (Elysburg, Pa. / Southern Columbia) tied her own school record while winning the pole vault competition with a jump of 3.30 meters (10' 10.00") giving the Dukes three record setting performances this weekend.] Sophomore Tara Gerlach (Erie, Pa. / Villa Maria Academy) paced three DU point-scorers in the 1,500 meter race with a third-place finish at 4:44.11. Also finishing third were the Dukes' 4 x 800 meter relay team and sophomore Kerri Durica (West Mifflin, Pa. / West Mifflin) whose leap of 11.66 meters (38' 3.25") was good for the bronze medal in the triple jump. The Dukes did not field competitors in two of the 22 championship events: the 5,000 meter run and the heptathlon.
