Women's Track Finishes A-10 Championship in Seventh Place

CHARLOTTE - The Duquesne women's track and field team concluded the 2009 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship in seventh place.
The Dukes finished the two-day event with a total of 55.5 points. Host Charlotte won their fourth consecutive title, totaling 174 points.
In the second day of competition, Melissa Miller joined Sydney Schwab and Sierra Larsuel as medal winners. Miller won silver in the 400m, crossing in 55.49. She also picked up a bronze in the 200m with a time of 24.46. Schwab took silver in the javelin with a throw of 131-2 and Larsuel won bronze in the triple jump with a distance of 18-7 on Saturday.
In her final conference championship, senior Samantha Howard ran three events. She placed fourth in the 5000m (17:21.79) sixth in the 1500m (4:35.08) and seventh in the 4x800m (9:03.13).
Howard was joined by fellow seniors Kathleen Parker and Charlene Garth on the 4x800m relay team. Parker and Garth also ran the 800m, finishing ninth (2:14.89) and 13th (2:16.01) respectively and were sixth in the 4x400 (3:53.14).
Senior Christine Swanson was 12th in the triple jump with a distance of 36-3.
DU improves two spots from their ninth place finish in 2008.
