Women's Track Places Second at A-10 Championship

AMHERST, Mass. - The Duquesne women's track and field team placed second at the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship. The Dukes finished the two-day event with 112 points, six behind first place George Mason.

Saturday's medal winners were Valerie Palermo - gold in the steeplechase, Mercedes Oliver -- silver in the hammer, Shannon Taub -- silver in the high jump, Autumn Greba - 10,000m and Victoria Soeder - bronze in the long jump.

On Sunday, the Dukes added to the total with Greba (5,000m), Oliver (discus) and Soeder (100m hurdles) all winning a second silver. Bethany Evankovich (400m) and Hannah Gilliam (800m) along with Soeder (long jump) all won bronze.

Additionally, the 4x800m team of Gilliam, Maiah Yankello, Taylor Pletz and Annegret Nehl won bronze.

The second place finish is the best finish for the Dukes since 2005 and 2014 when Duquesne also placed second.
