DU's 800M Relay Team Sets New Record At ECACs
May 15, 2004
New Haven, Conn. - Duquesne University's women's outdoor track and field team set a new school record Saturday at the ECAC Championships at Yale University as the 4 x 800 meter relay qualified for Sunday's finals with a time of 9:02.23. This mark, which was good for seventh place in the 15-team trials, topped the old record of 9:11:96 set at last season's Penn Relays by Tara Gerlach, Alison Buchanan, Michelle Flynn and Liz Graham.
Sophomore Melissa Stewart's (Indiana, Pa. / Indiana) top discuss throw of 47.15 meters (154 feet, 8 inches) was good for third place and the Red and Blue's first points in this tournament. Stewart previously qualified for the NCAA regionals with a toss of 160 feet, 9 inches at last month's Indiana University of Pennsylania Open.
With six points, the Dukes are in a tie for 20th place with Columbia, URI and William and Mary. The competition concludes today in New Haven.
