DU Track Opens Indoor Season At WVU

Morgantown, W.Va. - Duquesne University's women's indoor track team opened the 2004-05 season at the West Virginia University Holiday Classic at WVU's Shell Building.
Junior Sarah Fetterman (Elysburg, Pa. / Southern Columbia) won the pole vault with a jump of 3.20 meters (10 feet 6 inches) and freshman Jaclyn Walters (Jeannette, Pa. / Penn Trafford) finished second (3.05 meters, 10 feet even).
Another junior, Kristen Micsky (Greenville, Pa. / Reynolds), took the triple jump with a leap of 11.29 meters (37' 0.50") after finishing third in the long jump.
Freshman Stephanie Sabol (Minersville, Pa. / Nativity BVM) grabbed fourtth place in the mile run with a time of 5:58.34. Sophomore Amelia Sofis (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Fox Chapel) finished fifth in the 400 meter dash as did freshman Jackie Schaefer (Venetia, Pa. / Peters Twp.) in the 800 meter run.
In addition to the Mountaineers and the Dukes, other colleges competing included Bowie State, California (Pa.), Carnegie Mellon, Concord, Frostburg State, Marshall, McDaniel, Robert Morris, Washington and Jefferson, West Liberty State and West Virginia Wesleyan. Three track clubs also fielded competitors.
The Dukes are off until after the new year when they will head to Kent State for the Black Squirrel Classic on Saturday, January 8, 2005.
