Results

Duquesne University's women's track and field squad opened the 2002-03 campaign with two gold and a total of eight medals in the field events at the West Virginia University Holiday Classic Saturday in the WVU Shell Building. The Dukes swept all three medals in the triple jump.

Sophomore Kristen Micsky (Greenville, PA / Reynolds) picked up gold medals in the long and triple jump events with jumps of 5.46 and 11.21 meters respectively. The soph also took a silver medal in the long jump event.

Junior Shea McMillan (Pittsburgh, PA / Mt. Lebanon) followed Micsky with silvers in the long jump and triple jump with efforts just 0.06 meters behind DU's first placer. Sophomore Melissa Blackburn (Wexford, PA / North Allegheny) grabbed the Dukes' fourth silver in the shot put competition.

Freshman Kerri Durica (West Mifflin, PA / West Mifflin) completed Duquesne's sweep in the triple jump competition with a third place finish of 10.97 meters while sophomore Sarah Fetterman (Elysburg, PA / Southern Columbia) also grabbed a silver in her event, the pole vault.

Duquesne competed with teams from host West Virginia, Frostburg, Marshall, Robert Morris and Concord as well as several unattached athletes.

In field events, the Dukes were led by Nicole Wiley (New Castle, DE / Padua Academy) in the 60 meter hurdles and Julie Tyo (West Suffield, CT / Suffield) in the 500 meter race, both finishing fourth in their events.

And in the men's competition, a club event for the Dukes, sophomore Chuck Moran (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) grabbed the silver medal in the weight throw with a toss of 14.59 meters.

 

 

Duquesne is off until after the first of the year when they will compete in the Robert Morris University Invitational on Sunday, January 19, 2003.
