Four Dukes Named All-Conference

The Atlantic 10 Conference named four members of Duquesne's track & field team to their academic all-conference team released today. Emily Beahan, Jenna Daggett and Samantha Howard were selected for the first time while Melissa Stewart earned A-10 all-academic honors for the fourth consecutive season.
Beahan earned two gold medals at the A-10 Indoor Championships - crossing first in the 1,000 meter run (2:57.22) and was part of the team that won the DMR in 12:10:00. She had a personal-best time of 2:17.56 in the 800 meter run at the Bucknell Heptagonal and crossed fifth in the mile at the Akron Open (5:05.04). A physical therapy major, Beahan has a grade point average of 3.91.
Daggett set two personal-best times this season - 10:26.99 in the 3,000 meter run at the Akron Open and 18:24.86 in the 5,000 meter run at the Bucknell Indoor Heptagonal. Her time of 18:30.50 was 13th best at the A-10 Indoor Championships in the 5,000 meter run. She had a seventh place finish at the Bucknell Outdoor Heptagonal, finishing in 10:31.17 in the 3,000 meter run. Daggett, whose grade point average is 3.92, is a forensic science major.
Howard set three school records this season in addition to two medals at the A-10 Indoor Championships. Her time of 4:34.93 in the 1,500 meter run broke her previous record of 4:36.94. Howard eclipsed another of her old records of 5:01.09 by crossing in 5:00.95 in the mile. Her time of 17:20.23 in the 5,000 meter run broke the previous indoor record that stood since 2001. Howard was on the gold medal winning DMR team, with Beahan, at the A-10 Indoor Championships, where she also won silver in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 4:34.93. A history major, Howard has a 3.92 grade point average.
Stewart, a fifth-year senior, earned all-academic honors for the outdoor season in 2004 and was all-academic for the indoor season in 2005. Stewart was all-academic last season, the first year the A-10 combined the indoor and outdoor seasons when deciding the team. In the shot put, Stewart earned a silver medal at A-10 outdoor Championships with a throw of 44-6 and a bronze medal at A-10 Indoor Championships with a throw of 41-8.75. She also competed in the ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the discus. Stewart has qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships which will be held May 26. The 2007 Duquesne Female Student of the Year, Stewart had a 3.97 grade point average while majoring in Health Management Systems.
The four student-athletes are the most Duquesne has had on the academic all-conference team since 2004.
