PITTSBURGH - Duquesne's Rachel Fyalkowski (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and Elizabeth Morris (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) each earned 2017-18 CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District® honors, the organization announced today.
Fyalkowski and Morris were two of 10 selections named to the District 2 team which encompasses Washington, D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Women's Track/Cross Country Teams selected by CoSIDA recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the playing field and in the classroom.
Fyalkowski is currently a graduate student in the school of education (grades pre-k through 4), recording a 4.0 cumulative GPA after finishing her undergraduate degree with a 3.92 GPA in psychology. She placed seventh in the shot put and ninth in the hammer throw at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship. She also added a seventh-place mark in the shot put at the 2018 A-10 Indoor Championship. This season, Fyalkowski posted the fifth-best mark in school history in the shot put at the Carnegie Mellon Quad Meet. She paced both the shot put and hammer throw at the 2018 St. Francis (Pa.) Red Flash Open while finishing second in the hammer throw at the Bucknell Team Challenge.
Morris, a member of both the cross country and track teams, recently completed her junior year, accumulating a 3.98 GPA in education (grades 4 through 8). She finished fourth in the 5,000-meter run and fifth in the 10,000-meter run at the 2018 A-10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship. Additionally, she placed eighth in the 5,000-meter run at the 2018 A-10 Indoor Championship following a 21st-place mark at the 2017 A-10 Cross Country Championship. Morris posted a personal record in the 5,000-meter run at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic and helped the Dukes to a second-place finish at the 2017 A-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, as well.
As Academic All-District® honorees, Fyalkowski and Morris advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, which will be announced in June.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions -- NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division.
Duquesne was the only school in District 2 with more than one selection.
