PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne volleyball team finished the weekend a perfect 4-0 after victories over Howard and Eastern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon as part of the Duquesne Invitational.
Allison Foschia (41 kills, 35 digs, .348 hitting percentage) was named MVP of the event. Liz Homan (38 kills, .337 hitting percentage, 13 blocks) and Patti Abshire (57 digs) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Next weekend, the Dukes head out west to Stockton, Calif. for the Community Bankers Classic hosted by University of the Pacific. The first match will be Fri., Sept. 2 against Army with an 8:00 p.m. start time. The following day, DU will play Mississippi State at 1:00 p.m. and the host Tigers at 10:00 p.m. All times are Eastern Standard.

DUQUESNE 3, HOWARD 0 The Dukes never trailed in the match as they easily handled Howard 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-11). Sara Scheirman had a match high 14 kills and hit .417. Taylor Jones had a match-best 33 assists and Abshire recorded 33 assists.
DUQUESNE 3, EASTERN KENTUCKY 0 Foschia recorded a double-double of 10 kills and 13 digs while Homan had a match-best 15 kills and Scheirman a match-high 16 digs to lead the Dukes to a 25-12, 25-18, 25-14 victory.
WEEKEND WRAPUP
This is the second consecutive year the Dukes have gone 4-0 at the season opening tournament - since 2006, Duquesne has a 21-1 record in the first home stand of the season
Nicole Wright finished the weekend needing just 51 kills for 1,000 - she had 24 for the weekend and 925 going into the season
Taylor Jones set a career-high with six kills against Marist
The Dukes are a combined 33-4 all-time against the weekend's opponents (4-0 vs. Howard, 2-0 vs. Marist, 26-1 vs. Saint Francis, Pa. and 1-3 vs. Eastern Kentucky)
