QUICK RECAP: The Duquesne volleyball team evened its record at 2-2 after a 3-2 victory over Youngstown State on Tuesday night.
Maddie Bazelak led all players with a career-high 25 kills and 15 digs. Abbie Trzciak had 16 kills and hit .500. Molly Davet recorded a team-high 23 digs and Sydney McGinn recorded a career-best 57 assists
Sam Brown recorded 23 kills and Dana Borsz had a match-high 27 digs for YSU.
Duquesne jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the 1st set and never looked back. Bazelak's kill gave the Dukes the win 25-22.
The Dukes won six of the first seven points in the 2nd set before the Penguins came back to tie it at 8-8. Duquesne would win the next three points and maintain the lead the rest of the set, winning 25-21 and taking a 2-0 match lead into intermission.
The Dukes had a chance to sweep the match when Trzeciak's kill set up match point at 24-23, but back-to-back Duquesne errors followed by a YSU ace gave the Penguins the set at 26-24.
Trailing 20-14 in the 4th set, YSU went on an 11-3 run - highlight by a 6-0 run -- to win the 4th set 25-23 and tie the match at 2-2.
After the 7th tie in the 5th set that made the score 14-14, the Dukes got a kill from Bazelak followed by a YSU attack error to win the set 16-14 and the match 3-2.
UP NEXT: The Dukes open the home slate on Friday against Coppin State in the first match of the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational at the Palumbo Center. Match time is 11:00 a.m.
