Volleyball Opens Duquesne/RMU Invitational With Two Wins

PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne volleyball team improved to 5-1 on the year after a recording wins over Providence and Norfolk State on Friday at the Palumbo Center. The Dukes defeated the Friars 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-17) in the first match of the day. Sara Scheirman (11 kills, 12 digs), who was honored pre-match for recording 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs, and Allison Foschia (10 kills, 11 digs) each recorded double-double. Mary Henry added 28 assists and Patti Abshire 11 digs. In the final match of the evening, Duquesne made quick work of the Spartans 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-7). Ashley Buse hit a career-best .786, converting 11 of her 14 attempts into kills. Foschia had a match-best 13 kills and Abshire a match-high 13 digs. Henry recorded 27 assists. The match took only 71 minutes to complete. The event wraps up tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m. when Duquesne hosts Loyola. At 3:00 p.m. Bucknell and Loyola will face off on a neutral court match and the final match begins at 7:00 p.m. when the Dukes take on the Bison. Providence at Duquesne
