Dukes Win Season Opener Over Georgia State

The Duquesne University volleyball team opened the 2004 season with a 3-2 victory over visiting Georgia State in the first round of the Duquesne / Robert Morris Invitational. Erin Trageser led the Dukes with 16 kills and 19 digs while Stephanie Hopkins led the Red and Blue with a match-best 24 digs. Freshman setter Kristin Garnett led the match with 61 assists. With the win, Head Coach Steve Opperman recorded his 200th career victory. He is 200-213 in eight seasons as a head coach. Georgia State was led by Ana Paula Ferreira with 23 kills and Carol Mattos added 20 digs to lead their efforts. The Dukes return to the court tonight as they face Seton Hall at 7:00 pm in the Palumbo Center.
