DU Suffers First Loss of Tournament

The Duquesne volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season and of the DU/RMU Invite with a 3-1 fall to Eastern Kentucky (3-0). The Dukes, who stand 2-1 before tonight's night cap with Akron at 7:30 pm, were led by Diana Wuekber with 15 kills and Karisa Decker with a personal-best 25 digs. EKU's Liz Guard led the match wtih 20 kills while Brittany Nobilio had a match-best 31 digs. The Colonels took match 1 30-23 before the Dukes rebounded and snagged a 31-29 edge in game two. EKU upped its edge to a 2-1 lead after a 30-25 victory in the third set and secured the win with a 31-29 effort in game four. Setter Kristin Garnet led DU with 54 assists, while senior Erin Trageser had 23 digs and junior Stephanie Hopkins added 20. Junior Monica Tinsley recorded a personal- and team-best seven blocks in the contest. Both teams recorded 14 team blocks for the match. Duquesne is back in play tonight at 7:30 pm vs. Akron.
