Dukes Top McNeese State 3-2

Houston, Texas - Duquesne's volleyball team topped McNeese State 3-2 (30-20, 24-30, 23-30, 36-34, 15-8) Saturday afternoon to take the Dukes' final match of the Rice Invitational on the Owls' Autry Court. The win raised DU's 2003 record to 4-3 while the Cowgirls dropped to 1-5. Senior Sarah Brown (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock), who had a game-best 66 assists along with 17 digs, was named to the All-Tournament Team. Five Dukes reached double digits in kills led by sophomore Stephanie Hopkins with 19 and senior Sarah Morrow with 18 while junior Ashley Macko (23) and Hopkins (22) led six DU players in double digits in digs. As a team, the Dukes had a positive attack mark of .218. Down 1-2 games entering the fourth contest, the Dukes fought off MSU, which hails from Lake Charles, La., for a 36-34 overtime victory and then won the fifth and deciding match by a 15-8 mark. McNeese State was led by Marquita Williams with 20 kills and six blocks, Nicole James with 27 digs and Angela Brittain with 45 assists. Rice defeated Purdue in the final match of this event by a 3-2 (28-30, 24-30, 30-24, 31-29, 15-12) advantage to win the tournament title. Here are Dukes with double digit marks in kills and/or digs:
