Volleyball Falls to #1 Nebraska 3-0

LINCOLN - The Duquesne volleyball team fell to #1 Nebraska 3-0 on Friday afternoon in their second of three matches at the Ameritas Players Challenge.

The scores of the sets were 25-7, 25-12 and 25-20.

The Dukes were led by Arielle Love with seven kills and Mary Henry with 17 assists. Sara Scheirman and Allison Foschia recorded eight digs apiece.

The Cornhuskers' Lauren Cook, a 2011 First-Team All-Big Ten and AVCA Honorable Mention All-America selection had a match-high 33 assists. Gina Mancuso, a 2011 AVCA First-Team All-America honoree and unanimous First-Team All-Big Ten selection, had a match-high 15 kills.

Nebraska led from wire-to-wire in the first two sets. In the third set, the Dukes built an 18-15 lead midway through, but the Huskers outscored them 10-2 down the stretch to close out the set and the match.

DU (8-3) concludes weekend action against Oklahoma tomorrow evening.

  • The last time a Duquesne team faced a #1 ranked opponent was March 12, 2010 when the lacrosse team traveled to Evanston, Ill. to take on Northwestern

  • Nebraska opened the season ranked #4 in the AVCA Preseason Poll

  • The Cornhuskers moved up to #1 in the polls on Aug. 27th after defeating top-ranked and defending national champion UCLA 3-2 on Aug. 25th

  • Nebraska was selected to win the Big Ten Conference title and the Dukes' Sept. 15th opponent Penn State was selected second
