Volleyball Splits Matches on Final Day of PSU Classic

UNIVERISTY PARK, Pa. - The Duquesne volleyball team split its two matches in the final day of the PSU Classic on Saturday. In the opening match #4 Penn State shutout out the Dukes 3-0 before DU defeated Portland 3-1. The Nittany Lions held off the Dukes by the scores of 25-16, 25-16, 25-16. Sara Scheirman had 10 kills, Allison Foschia and Patti Abshire 11 digs each and Mary Henry 22 assists. After dropping the first set to the Pilots 25-21, Duquesne bounced back by winning the next three 25-21, 25-20, 25-20. Foschia had a career-high 21 kills and hit .341. Abshire had 22 digs and Henry 48 assists. Up next is The City Match - Duquesne and Pitt on Tuesday night at the Palumbo Center. The match starts at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free. After the Pitt match, conference play starts. The A-10 season kicks off at Palumbo against league newcomer VCU on Friday the 21st. Duquesne at #4 Penn State
