Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Duquesne's volleyball team dropped their opening match of the 2002 Wildcat Classic to host Villanova 3-1 (30-16, 27-30, 30-28, 30-28) Friday night at 'Nova's Jake Nevin Field House. The Dukes were led by sophmore Ashley Macko (Pittsburgh, Pa. / South Park) who had 11 kills and 13 digs.

The Dukes lost the first game 30-16 but came back in the second contest (30-27) to even the match at 1-1. The Wildcats (7-6) held off the surging Dukes in the final two contests, both decided by a 30-28 score.

Freshman Diana Wuebker (St. Henry, Ohio / St. Henry) registered 10 kills and 13 digs and fellow frosh Stephanie Hopkins (Tonawanda, N.Y. / Sweet Home) came through with 11 kills. Sophomore Erin Trageser (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) saved 12 digs. Junior Sarah Brown (Glen Rock, Pa. / Susquehannock) again led DU with 32 assists. She was aided by fellow junior Cristy Gustas (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) who had 10 assists in one game.

Duquesne (7-5) take on Siena (3-7) at noon Saturday and Radford (4-7) at 3:00 p.m. in their remaining competition in the Villanova tournamemt.
