Volleyball Defeats Charlotte 3-0

PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne volleyball team took just over an hour to shut out visiting Charlotte 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. With the win the Dukes improve to 13-5 overall and remain perfect in Atlantic 10 Conference play at 2-0.

The scores of the sets were 25-8, 25-10, 25-18.

Arielle Love had a match-high nine kills and hit .514. Mary Henry led all players with 22 assists and Patti Abshire recorded a team-high 11 digs. Sara Scheirman moved past Amanda Haeg into fifth place on the Dukes' all-time kill list with 1,153.

As a team, the Dukes held the 49ers to -.093 hitting while recording eight blocks. Only one UNCC player hit for a positive number - Amanda Videmsek, .059.

Duquesne, winners of four straight matches, will embark on a four-match road trip beginning on Sept. 28th at Saint Louis. The following day, the Dukes travel to A-10 newcomer Butler. Oct. 5th Duquesne travels to George Washington before heading to Morgantown to face West Virginia the next day. The next home match is Oct. 12th versus Temple.
