Dukes Take La Salle 3-2
Oct. 2, 2004 The Dukes' volleyball team captured a 3-2 (30-26, 30-23, 24-30, 26-30, 15-11) victory over visiting La Salle behind a match-best 22 kills from sophomore Amanda Haeg (New Prague, Minn./New Prague). Junior Diana Wuebker (St. Henry, Ohio/St. Henry) and Stephanie Hopkins (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) had 16 digs for the Dukes. Junior libero Karisa Decker (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) added 14 digs and freshman setter Kristin Garnett (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) posted a match-best 55 assists. Kristen Kelsey led La Salle with 16 kills and Caitlin DeJong had a match-best 25 digs. Neither team hit well on the night as DU was just .145 (69-36-228) and La Salle hit .127 (68-40-221) for the match. The Explorers held an 88-78 edge in digs, but the Red & Blue had 13 team blocks to the visitor's 10. Wuebker led the way with eight blocks - three solo, five assists. The Dukes improved to 8-9 (2-1) while La Salle fell to 7-11 (0-2). Duquesne will be on the road the next four weeks beginning with an Oct. 8 match at Fordham.
