The Dukes volleyball team captured a 3-1 Atlantic 10 victory over visiting Fordham Saturday night at the A.J. Palumbo Center. Stephanie Hopkins (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) led the match with 18 kills followed by Sarah Morrow (Baytown, Texas/Robert E. Lee) with 17 and Diana Wuebker (St. Henry, Ohio/St. Henry) with 15 kills. Erin Trageser (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) paced the Red & Blue with 15 digs while Avery Dunn (Austin, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) posted a match- and career-high 54 assists.

Fordham was led by Lindsey Lofstedt with 15 kills and 16 digs.

Duquesne cruised to a 30-16 victory in game one hitting an impressive .548 (18-1-31) while the Rams managed to hit just .194 (13-7-31) for the game. Game two saw the Dukes go ahead 12-4 and they held a 21-12 advantage before Fordham closed the margin to a 17-21 reach before DU extended its lead to a 26-19 edge they would not relinquish. Morrow served an ace to capture the game.

Fordham had a solid game three taking an early 7-4 edge, but the Dukes recovered to hold an 8-7 margin. The Rams then took a 12-9 lead before DU held leads of 13-12 and 19-14. Duquesne kept its lead and was up 27-23 before solid play by Fordham gave the Rams a 30-27 victory.

Game four saw the teams trade points tying the contest six times before a strong rotation during Dunn's serve put the Dukes ahead 19-12. The Red & Blue out-scored the Rams nine-three afterward to take a 29-17 lead. The closest Fordham got was a 21-29 reach, before give the Dukes the game on a service error.

Duquesne returns to action this coming Friday, Oct. 10, as they host Xavier at 7:00 pm at the Palumbo Center.
