PITTSBURGH - Jessica Artman (13 kills, 18 digs) and Brittany Poling (10 kills, 11 digs) each recorded a double-double as the Duquesne volleyball team defeated La Salle (19-25, 25-21, 25-18, 21-13) Sunday afternoon at the Palumbo Center.

Chelsea Tillotson had a match-high 31 assists and Amy Palko (18), Tricia Mullen (13), Katie Goss (11) and Tillotson (10) all had double-figures in digs as the Dukes improve to 13-6 overall and 2-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

DU got off to a slow start in the first set as they only hit .070 and had five hitting errors and three service errors. La Salle scored the first four points of the set and led the rest of the way as the Explorers took an early 1-0 match lead after the 25-19 set victory.

Duquesne rebounded in the second set as four Artman kills led the Dukes to a 25-21 win. Trailing 11-10, Tillotson set Artman up for a kill that started a 5-0 DU run to give them the lead 15-11. La Salle could not get back into the set as the Dukes tied the match 2-1 after winning the second set 25-21.

Leading 12-10 in the third set, Duquesne went on a 5-0 to open up a 17-10 advantage. La Salle could only get within four points of tying the match, but the Dukes held off any Explorers rally to win the set 25-18 and take a 2-1 match lead.

DU had momentum going into the fourth set and used 19 kills and a Palko ace to win the fourth set 25-13 and the match 3-1. The Dukes defense only allow back-to-back La Salle points just once in the entire set.

Duquesne will take to the road for the next three matches - Oct. 10 at Fordham, Oct. 11 at Rhode Island and Oct. 16 at Saint Louis. The Dukes return home Oct. 19 against West Virginia for the annual Dig for the Cure match.
