Duquesne women's volleyball (8-10, 2-2) captured a 3-1 victory over visiting Xavier (7-10, 1-2) Friday night at the A.J. Palumbo Center behind a 19-kill, 15-dig effort by Stephanie Hopkins (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home). Diana Wuebker (St. Henry, Ohio/St. Henry) led the match with three aces and tied the team lead with four blocks.

Xavier was led by Erica Kaczorowski with 15 kills and Jordan Brightwell with 17 digs.

Ashley Macko (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Park) and Erin Trageser (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) each added 14 kills in the win.

Duquesne led most of game one until Xavier took advantage of two Duquesne errors and recorded an ace to tie the game 19-19. They held a 24-21 advantage before the Dukes hit two kills, a block assist and two points off of Xavier hitting errors for a 26-24 edge. The match was tied once again at 29-29 with the Dukes taking a 30-29 edge on a blocking error and won the game after a bad set denied Xavier the attack for a 31-29 DU decision.

The Dukes were down 14-20 in game two and inched their way to a 19-23 reach after a service ace from Macko. Xavier would extend their lead to 29-27 before Trageser's kill and block assist with Wuebker tied the game 29-29. The teams traded points with Xavier holding a 31-30 edge on a DU hitting error. Sarah Morrow tied the game with a kill and Hopkins' solo block gave the Dukes a 32-31 lead. Hopkins closed out the game with a kill for the 33-31 edge.

Xavier took game three 30-28 after seeing the game tied 21-21. The team traded leads until a blocking error and two Musketeer kills gave the visitor a 28-26 edge. Macko's kill got the game within a 27-28 reach but it wasn't enough as Xavier secured the win with a solid kill.

 

 

Xavier went ahead 8-6 in game four before back-to-back hitting errors tied the game 8-8. Xavier took advantage of two Duquesne errors and a kill for a 13-8 lead. The Dukes' Wuebker and Trageser recorded kills along with two Xavier errors for a 13-13 game. Two ties would follow before the Red & Blue out-scored the Musketeers 10-6 for 23-19 advantage. Wuebker put the game in the bag with two kills for a 27-21 lead. Xavier would only get within a 23-27 reach thereafter. The Dukes won the game and match as Xavier was called for a back row attacker and committed a hitting error for the 30-23 final.

Duquesne closes out the weekend hosting Dayton Saturday at 7:00 pm.
