The Dukes' volleyball team dropped a 3-0 non-conference match to visiting Pitt Tuesday afternoon at the A.J. Palumbo Center. Erin Trageser (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) led the Dukes with 12 kills while Diana Wuebker (St. Henry, Ohio/St. Henry) added 10 kills and a match-best six blocks. Stephanie Hopkins (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) led DU with 14 digs.

Pitt, which won its 11th-straight match, improved to 16-3 overall and was led by Sarah Rollman, Megan Miller and Wendy Hatlestad with 13 kills each. Rollman led the match with 16 digs.

The Panthers held a 15-6 edge in game one before the Dukes hit three solid blocks and took advantage of a hitting error for a 10-16 reach. Duquesne inched within an 18-20 reach led by Sarah Morrow's two kills, but the Panthers followed suit with three kills and an ace for a 24-18 lead they would not relinquish.

Game two saw a 4-4 tie before Pitt rattled off six consecutive points for a 14-7 edge. Duquesne would get cut the lead to a 21-26 reach and again to a 23-27 margin, but three straight kills gave the Panthers a 30-23 win.

The Dukes opened game three taking a 3-0 lead on solid hitting and increased its margin to a 9-7 lead on back-to-back Panther errors. Kills by Sarah Brown and Amanda Haeg gave DU an 11-9 lead, but the Panthers bounced back and snagged a 14-12 edge they would extend to an 18-14 margin. Duquesne kept the game within reach tying the contest 26-26 on kills by Wuebker and Trageser and two Pitt errors. The Panthers followed with two kills before a hitting error made it a 27-28 game. Pitt went up by one on a DU error before Hopkins' kill made it a 28-29 game. The Panthers closed out the match with a kill to take the 30-28 edge.



Duquesne stands 8-12 overall, 2-3 in the Atlantic 10 and next travel to Philadelphia for a pair of Conference matches at La Salle Oct. 17 and at Temple Oct. 18.
