DU Volleyball Upsets Visiting Xavier

Duquesne volleyball (14-9, 4-4) posted a 3-2 upset over visiting Xavier (14-9, 5-3) in an Atlantic 10 match Friday evening. The Musketeers entered the match tied for second in the A-10 and stood eighth in this week's NCAA Northeast Regional rankings. The Dukes were tied for fifth in the Conference.
Freshman Diana Wuebker's 14 kills and match-best five blocks led the Dukes. Ashley Macko added 13 kills and 10 digs while Sarah Morrow posted 11 kills and tied the team lead with 12 digs. Xavier was led by Meggie Hoffman with 24 kills and 15 digs.
Duquesne captured game one 30-28 followed by a 26-30 loss in game two. DU won game three 34-32 before Xavier took the fourth 30-20 to send the match into the fifth and deciding game. The Dukes controlled game five winning 15-9 with the Musketeers hitting -.136 (6-9-22) for the game.
The Dukes led the match with nine team blocks while Xavier posted six, but the Musketeers out-hit the Red & Blue posting 73 kills to the Dukes' 59.
DU hosts Dayton, which stands second in the A-10 and fifth in the Northeast Region, on Saturday in a 5:00 pm match to conclude the weekend competition.
