Duquesne women's volleyball (10-14, 3-5) suffered a 3-0 loss to visiting George Washington (18-5, 6-2) Saturday night at the A.J. Palumbo Center. Stephanie Hopkins (Tonawanda. N.Y./Sweet Home) led the Dukes with 10 kills while Avery Dunn (Austin, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) and Ashley Macko (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Park) posted a team-best 12 digs. Sarah Morrow (Baytown, Texas/Robert E. Lee) led the match with four blocks.

Ruth Lazzari led the Colonials and the match with 15 kills while Sarah Hokom added 14 kills and 14 digs.

George Washington took a commanding 19-10 lead in game one before the Dukes inched their way to a 14-20 reach and then again to a 24-28 deficit on back-to-back kills from Hopkins. But the Colonials took a 30-24 edge.

Game two followed suit with the visitor holding a 16-10 lead on six-straight kills. Duquesne held strong and cut the lead to a 17-20 reach as they took advantage of solid hitting and some Colonials errors. DU tied the contest at 23-23 serving for five straight points and the contest would be tied again at 24 and 25, but GW held onto the lead for a 30-27 win.

Game three was tied 5-5 early in the match and could have been anyone's game with GW holding a slight 11-10 margin. The Colonials upped their lead to a 15-11 edge, but Duquesne out-scored GW 10-8 to get within a 20-22 edge. George Washington went ahead 27-23 and took the 30-24 decision on two kills and an ace.

The Dukes take to the road for a pair of A-10 contests this coming weekend at they travel to Fordham Oct. 31 and Rhode Island Nov. 1.
