Volleyball Clinches A-10 Championship Berth After 3-1 Win Over George Washington

PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne volleyball team clinched its first berth in the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship since 2004 after its 3-1 victory over George Washington on Sunday afternoon.
The scores of the sets were 25-23, 25-21, 24-26 and 25-21.
With the victory, the Dukes improve to 21-8 overall and 9-4 in the A-10.
Sara Scheirman recorded her team-leading 16th double-double of the season with 16 kills and 15 digs. Allison Foschia had a double-double of 10 kills and 13 digs. Sara Svorinic also had a double-double with 45 assist and 20 digs.
After leading for most of the first set, GW tied the score at 23-23. A kill from Ashley Buse followed by a Colonials attach error won the set for DU, 25-23.
The Dukes led from start-to-finish in the second set en route to a 25-21 win.
Duquesne held off two set points, but a Dukes attack error followed by a MacKenzie Knox kill gave the Colonials the set 26-24.
The fourth set had seven ties before the Dukes pulled away with a 25-21 win to clinch the match 3-1.
This was the first of a three-game home stand for Duquesne. Up next will be La Salle on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. followed by Charlotte next Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
