Dukes Suffer 3-2 Loss to A-10 No. 2 Seed Xavier

The Duquesne volleyball team suffered a hard-fought 3-2 Atlantic 10 loss to visiting Xavier Friday night at the Palumbo Center. Stephanie Hopkins led the Dukes with 15 kills while Karisa Decker recorded a team-high 13 digs. Xavier's Kate Duchek led all players with 24 kills and Jordan Brightwell posted a team- and match-best 15 digs.
Diana Wuebker and Amanda Haeg added 13 kills each while Erin Trageser slammed down 12 kills. Wuebker led the Dukes with eight blocks and tied the match-lead landing three service aces. Setter Kristin Garnett racked-up 57 assists in the fall.
Duquesne saw itself down 0-2 (22-30, 25-30) before bouncing back to win game three 30-25 hitting .317 (18-5-41) for the contest. Game four was anyone's game as 16 ties and six lead changes occurred before the Dukes took a 30-28 edge to send the match into the fifth and deciding game. The Red & Blue held an 8-3 edge and led 11-6 before Xavier fought back and tied the contest 11-11 and eventually took a 13-12 lead - their first of the game. DU tied the game 13-13 and again at 14-14, but Xavier inched out the 16-14 final to secure the win.
Duquesne stands tied with Fordham for fourth in the A-10 with a 6-7 league record while Xavier stayed as the League's No. 2 seed with an 11-2 A-10 mark. The dukes fell to 14-15 overall while the Musketeers upped their record to 17-9 on the season.
The Dukes close out the regular season slate hosting Dayton Saturday at 7:00 pm for Senior Night.
