The Dukes conclude the 2004 slate 15-16 overall.

In the second game of the series, second-seeded Xavier advanced via a 3-0 victory over third-seeded Temple led by All-Conference performer Kate Duchek with 15 kills while A-10 Setter of the Year Molly Martin recorded 44 assists in the win. Xavier took a 30-22 edge in game one racking up 20 kills and hitting .444 (20-4-36). The Musketeers fought for a 30-27 margin in the second game of the match and took the win on a Temple blocking error. Xavier snagged a 30-24 victory in game three landing 21 kills to the Owls' 14.

Dayton and Xavier have never met in the A-10 championship match. Xavier is making its first appearance in the title contest since 2001. They defeated Temple 3-0 that year to advance to the NCAA championship. This will be the third title appearance for both teams.
