PITTSBURGH -  Duquesne volleyball head coach Steve Opperman will participate in four tournaments and face a pair of NCAA Tournament teams as part of their 30-match 2011 schedule released today.

The season begins Labor Day weekend as the Dukes, along with the University of Pittsburgh, host the Duquesne/Pitt Invitational. DU will play four games in two days beginning Aug. 26 with a pair of matches against Marist and Saint Francis, Pa.. The following afternoon, Duquesne will face Howard and will close out the evening against Eastern Kentucky.

The Dukes hit the road for the first time on Sept. 2-3 when they travel to Stockton, Calif. for the Community Bankers Classic hosted by University of the Pacific. On day one, DU will face Army. The tournament closes out the following day with Mississippi State and the host-team Tigers.

On Sept. 6th, Duquesne will visit cross-town rival Robert Morris at the Sewall Center. The Colonials are the 2010 Northeast Conference runner-up. The Dukes hold a 26-8 all-time advantage over RMU.

Duquesne returns to tournament play on Sept. 9-10 when the Dukes participate in the Cleveland State Tournament. The first day DU will face IPFW, who are coming off a 21-win season and before falling in the Summit League Championship game. The final day of the event, the Dukes will face DePaul and the host Vikings.

The final tournament will take place in Evanston, Ill. and will be hosted by Northwestern on Sept. 16-17. DU will face NU on the first day of the event. NU was one of two teams on the schedule that made it to the second round of the 2011 NCAA Championship. On the final day of the event, the Dukes will play New Mexico State and Colgate.

Opening weekend of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Conference season begins at the Palumbo Center on Sept. 23rd when Duquesne hosts George Washington. The following Sunday, the Dukes will play Charlotte.

The following weekend, DU begins a four-game road trip beginning with Xavier on Sept. 30th. Duquesne will stay in Ohio as they face the defending league champion and NCAA Championship participant Dayton on Oct. 1st. On Oct. 7th the Dukes head to Rhode Island, then to Fordham the next evening.

Duquesne returns home for a five-game homestand beginning with La Salle on Oct. 14th. The following Sunday, DU will host Temple followed by Saint Louis on Oct. 21st. After a week off, Rhode Island and Fordham will come to Palumbo on Oct. 28th and Oct. 30th respectively.

The month of November starts off with road trips to Charlotte on Nov. 4th and George Washington on Nov. 5th.

Nov. 9th marks the return of the City Game against the University of Pittsburgh. The match will be played at the Fitzgerald Fieldhouse. The Dukes have won the last two matches against the Panthers.

The regular season concludes in Philadelphia against Temple on Oct. 11th and La Salle on Oct. 12th.

Dayton will the host for the 2011 Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship held Nov. 18-20. The top six teams in the league qualify for the event and will compete for an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
