Duquesne Sports Hall of Fame to Welcome Three New Members
PITTSBURGH - The Merle E. Gilliand Duquesne University Sports Hall of Fame will welcome three new members during a banquet to be held Friday, Sept. 19. Established in 1963, the Hall of Fame honors more than 250 athletes, coaches and builders for exceptional achievement across the more than 100 years of Duquesne intercollegiate athletics. The 2014 enshrinement class includes:
Diana Wuebker Kramer, E'06, GE'07 was a four-year All-Atlantic 10 volleyball honoree who holds school records in blocks and block assists and remains in the top-eight all-time in four other statistical categories.
The Honorable John T. "Jack" McVay, Jr., P'80, L'84 was a standout member of the Iron Dukes football teams that led Duquesne into Division III competition under Coach Dan McCann. He was an NCFA All-American Honorable Mention and four-year starter at offensive line.
John Stefanik, E'74 was a three-time All-American and played on McCann's 1973 National Club Football Championship team. His teams posted a 22-3 combined record during his career. Stefanik went on to be an assistant coach for the Iron Dukes as well.
This year's induction banquet will be held on Friday, September 19 at 6 p.m. in the Power Center Ballroom on the Duquesne campus. The new members will also be honored at the Duquesne vs. Monmouth football game on Saturday, September 20 at Rooney Field; kickoff is at 12 noon. All previous inductees will be invited onto the field for recognition as a group at halftime as well.
