Aug. 12, 2014
PITTSBURGH - Duquesne University women's volleyball head coach Steve Opperman took part in the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Ice Bucket Challenge Tuesday morning on the campus of Duquesne University.
Originating on social media in late July, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has swept the country raising awareness for the disease better known as Lou Gehrig's disease, as well as $4 million dollars, according to ALS Association.
Participants in the Ice Bucket Challenge are challenged through social media and have 24 hours to dump ice water over themselves. Opperman was challenged by George Washington head coach Amanda Ault and Georgetown associate athletic trainer Erin Pettinger. He then passed along the challenge to Jojit Coronel of Texas Tech, Jeff Nelson of New Mexico and Gini Ullery of Fordham.
Opperman is in his 17th season at Duquesne, where he has guided the Dukes to 246 wins and the 2013 Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship.
