Four Dukes Named Academic All-District

Duquesne University student-athletes Jenni Gross (Amherst, Ohio/Amherst Steele), Scott Knapp (Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry Traditional Academy), Travis MacKenzie (Carnegie, PA/Chartiers Valley) and Matt Stansfield (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) were all recently named to 2007 CoSIDA Academic All-District II Teams as voted on by the district's sports information directors.

Gross leads the DU volleyball team and is sixth in the Atlantic 10 with a .305 hitting percentage. She is second on the team with 324 kills and is fourth with 18 service aces. Gross is a senior health management systems major with a 3.66 grade point average.

Knapp is a junior quarterback with a 3.39 gpa in secondary education/citizenship. In four games this season, he has thrown for 456 yards and three touchdown passes.

MacKenzie leads the men's soccer team in scoring with 12 points on four goals and four assists and has managed three game-winning goals. A Pre-Season Third Team All-American, the senior midfielder holds a 3.37 gpa in business.

Stansfield anchors Duquesne's offensive line at the center position. A starter in each game, he has provided stellar pass protection and helped pave the way for DU running backs to rush for 900 yards. A senior, he boasts a 3.46 gpa in economics.

To be eligible for this award, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. He/she must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution. Sports information directors nominate eligible athletes from their schools who are named to district teams prior to being voted upon on the national level. CoSIDA has been selecting Academic All-America teams since 1952.

CoSIDA's District II covers Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
