Volleyball Signs Four to National Letters of Intent

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne head volleyball coach Steve Opperman has announced the signings of Madelynn Burnham, Samantha Kline, Lacey Levers and Jennifer Vargo to National Letters of Intent.

Outside Hitter
Toledo, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy/TVC 18-1

Burnham led Saint Ursula Academy to the 2010 Ohio State Championship, 2011 State Runner-Up and 2012 Final Four. A three-year letter winner and team, co-captain, she was selected First-Team All-State Division 1, District 7 First-Team and TRAC Player of the Year as a senior. As a junior, she was selected Third-Team All-State Division 1 and District 7 Second-Team.

At the club level, she led TVC 18-1 to a third place finish at Nationals while being selected to the All-Tournament team.

An honor student, Burnham plans on majoring in nursing.

Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic/Eastside Cleveland Juniors

Kline led Lake Catholic to the regional semi-finals as a senior and, as team co-captain, named All-State Honorable Mention selection. She was a two-time First-Team All-Northcoast and a two-time First-Team Northeast Lake District her junior and senior seasons. As a sophomore, she was named Second-Team All-Northcoast and Northeast Lake District honorable Mention. Additionally, she was the only sophomore named to the Lake County News-Herald All-Starteam.

At the club level, she led the Eastside Cleveland Juniors to the OVR 17U Regional Championship and helped them qualify in the American Division for the USA Volleyball National tournament.

An honor student, Kline plans on majoring in business.

Middle Hitter
Washignton, Pa./Chartiers-Houston/Renaissance

Levers led Chartiers-Houston to its first playoff appearance in 19 years as a sophomore and its first-ever trip to the WPIAL Class A semifinals. A two-time captain, she is the Buccaneers' leader in hitting, kills, aces and digs. Although she missed her junior season with an injury, she finished her career as Chartiers-Houston's all-time leader with 1,022 career kills. She was a three-time All-Section selection and a two-time All-WPIAL selection.

An honor student, Levers plans on majoring in nursing.

Dublin, Ohio/ Dublin Coffman/Mintonette Sports

A three-year letter winner, Vargo led Dublin Coffman to three consecutive Ohio Capital Conference Central Division championships. Individually, she was a 2012 Third-Team All-State selection, 2011 All-State Honorable Mention, 2011 Offensive Player of the Year, 2012 and 2011 Second-Team All-District, 2012 and 2011 First-Team All-OCC and 2010 Rookie of the Year,

At the club level, she led Mintonette to five straight appearances at nationals and was nominated All-American in 2010 and 2011.

An honor student, Vargo plans on majoring in biology.
