NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Duquesne women's cross country team placed fifth out of 11 NCAA Division I teams at the 38th annual National Catholic Invitational on Friday afternoon. The race was hosted by Notre Dame at Burke Golf Course.
Senior Angela Mignanelli (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) led the Dukes with a 14th-place finish, posting a time of 18:11.3 in the 5K race.
Sophomore Maria Carberry (Dickerson, Md./Urbana) placed 20th, crossing the finish line in 18:21.2 for Duquesne.
Junior Elizabeth Morris (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) finished 32nd at 18:43.7, followed by junior Jennifer Gerland (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) 42nd (19:02.1) and sophomore Megan Aller (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) 43rd (19:02.9).
The Fighting Irish won the meet with 34 points with Dayton (43) placing second, Marquette (80) third and Saint Louis (102) fourth.
The Dukes return to action on Sept. 23 at the Saint Vincent Invitational in Latrobe, Pa. The race is slated for a 10:45 a.m. ET start.
