Women's Cross Country Places Fifth at National Catholic Championship

Duquesne's women's cross country team placed fifth of 12 schools at the 2015 National Catholic Championship Friday afternoon at Notre Dame.
Senior Jenna Gigliotti placed first for Duquesne and 10th overall in the 299-runner field with a time of 18:02.5 on the 5K course. She was followed by sophomore Jenny DelSignore in 14th place in 18:09.6 and junior Valerie Palermo in 18th place in 18.19.6.
Rounding out the pack for the Dukes was senior Hannah Scipio in 69th in 19:07.2, freshman Elizabeth Morris in 92nd in 19:21.9, freshman Alison Carson in 154th in 20:13.2 and Taylor Pletz in 176th in 20:36.6.
Competing in the 115-runner JV race were senior Louise Prevoteau (3rd in 19:23.0), freshman Jennifer Gerland (16th in 19:57.5), freshman Lauren Smeltzer (35th in 20:32.7), sophomore ShyAnn Gajcowski (46th in 20:50.8) and senior Natalie Schichtel (56th in 21.16.0).
The Dukes return to action on Saturday, Oct. 3 as they compete in the Princeton Open.
