DU Women Harriers Place Sixth of 21 in JV Event at CMU

The Duquesne University women’s cross country team finished in sixth place at the Carnegie Mellon University Invite Saturday morning, competing against 21 other teams. Ahead of the Dukes were Pittsburgh, Seton Hill, Ashland, Carnegie Mellon and Washington and Lee.

Leading the Duquesne team of all JV runners and securing 21st place overall was freshman Taylor Pletz. Next to finish for the Dukes was senior Abbie Marquard at the 19:34.0 mark in 32nd place.

In third for the Red & Blue was Lauren Smeltzer at a time of 20:08.9, taking 51st out of 225 runners.

Following in fourth for the Dukes and 69th overall was freshman Jennifer Gerland at a 6k time of 20:27.7. At 20:31.9, Isabelle Marsh crossed the line fifth for the Dukes in 73rd place. The Dukes placed ahead of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Nazareth.

Next Saturday the Dukes will compete in the Princeton Invitational at 10 a..m.
