@DuqXCTF Announces 2018 Early Signees

PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne cross country and track and field coaching staffs recently announced the signing of six athletes to national letters of intent for the Dukes' 2018 recruiting class. 

DU's recruiting class includes three local products along with two athletes from eastern Pennsylvania and one athlete from Texas. 

Meet the Dukes' class of 2022: 


Cross Country, Track & Field (5K, 1600m, 800m) // Murrysville, Pa. // Franklin Regional

- Placed 14th at the WPIAL Championship as a senior in 2017, qualifying for PIAA Championship meet for the Panthers…finished third in the 800m at the 2017 WPIAL Championship

- Holds Franklin Regional school record in the 800m and is also part of the school record-holding 4x800 relay team

- Competes for coaches James Passerelli and Bob Ralston at Franklin Regional High School

- High school teammates with current Duquesne cross country/track and field freshman Mark Provenzo

- Also a member of the swimming team at Franklin Regional

- Intends to major in finance at Duquesne



Cross Country, Track & Field (Middle Distance) // Pottsville, Pa. // Pottsville Area

- Named 2017 Republican Herald Male Track Athlete of the Year...won the District 11 Class AAA 800- and 1600-meter runs while also running a leg on the championship 1,600 relay team…was the Crimson Tide’s leading scorer in track and field as a sophomore in 2016 and again as a junior in 2017

- Competes for coaches Charlie Schuster and Dan Slotterback at Pottsville Area High School

- Was also a PIAA Class AAA All-State selection in soccer as a senior in 2017, helping the Crimson Tide to its first Schuylkill League championship.

- Cousin, Byard Ebling, played soccer at Bowling Green



- Intends to major in biology at Duquesne



Cross Country, Track & Field (Distance) // Coatesville, Pa. // Coatesville Area

- Named 2017 Ches-Mont Girls Cross Country Athlete of the Year…2017 Daily Local News Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year…won Ches-Mont League Championship by crossing the finish line 47 seconds ahead of the runner-up…placed eighth at the PIAA Championship…finished 25th at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional Meet…also placed ninth at the PIAA state meet as a freshman in 2014

- Competed for head coach Keith Andrew at Coatesville Area High School

- Intends to major in physical therapy at Duquesne



Cross Country, Track & Field (Distance) // North Huntington, Pa. // Norwin

- Part of Norwin’s 2015 WPIAL Class AAA 4x800-meter Championship squad…placed 11th at WPIAL Class AAA Championship as a junior in 2016…helped Knights win Westmoreland County Championship title

- Competes for head coach Brian Fleckenstein at Norwin

- Also a member of the basketball and golf teams for the Knights

- Intends to major in business management at Duquesne



Cross Country, Track & Field (Distance) // Prosper, Texas // Prosper

- Earned 5A District 14 Newcomer of the Year for cross country in 2014…four-time First Team All-District 14 honoree…garnered First Team All-Region II in 2016 and ’17, automatically qualifying for states both of those seasons…finished in 24th at the Texas 5A Cross Country Championship as a senior in 2017…named Prospect’s most valuable runner in 2017…named Academic All-District honors as a freshman in 2014.

- Helped the Prosper Eagles to four straight cross country district championships in 2014-17, a Class 5A state runner-up finish and a regional championship as a junior in 2016, 5A state bronze and regional bronze as a sophomore in 2015

- Also helped the Eagles to a district championship in track and field as a junior in 2017

- Competes for coaches Josh Allen, Jason Grennier and Jennifer Gegogeine at Prosper High School

- Mother, Shelly (Castillo) Patterson, was a member of the cross country and track teams at the University of Texas-Pan American

- Member of the North Texas Jackrabbits club for coaches Sheila Stoutmire, Omar Stoutmire and William Warthon

- Intends to major in Forensic Science and Law at Duquesne  



Cross Country, Track & Field (Distance) // Bridgeville, Pa. // South Fayette

- Won 2017 WPIAL Class AA Boys Cross Country Championship, pacing the runner-up by 14 seconds…captured title at the 15th annual Red, White and Blue Classic at the Schenley Oval… TSCTA champion…placed third in the PIAA state meet in 2016…owns the South Fayette school record in the 5K with a time of 15:30

- Competes for head coach Joe Winans at South Fayette

- Grandfather, Bill Boyer, played football at Franklin & Marshall

- Has a YouTube channel “Cubey Time” which has over 30,000 subscribers
