Dukes Sweep A-10 Weekly Cross Country Awards

Duquesne University cross country runners Jim Spisak (Johnstown, Pa./Bishop McCort), Amber Valimont (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield), Josef DiPietrantonio (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) and Hannah Scipio (Derry, Pa./Derry) received Atlantic 10 weekly awards for the week ending Sept. 16. Spisak, a senior, was the men's Performer of the Week, Valimont, a junior, was the women's Performer of the Week and freshmen DiPietrantonio and Scipio were the Rookies of the Week.
Valimont finished second of 266 runners at the National Catholic Championship at Notre Dame with a time of 17:12 in the 5k race. She led the Dukes to a second place finish of 34 teams, behind only the host.
Spisak placed third of 277 harriers and was the top Atlantic 10 finisher with a time of 24:30 in the 8k race. The Dukes also placed second to Notre Dame in the 24-team field.
DiPietrantonio finished 41st of 277 competitors with a time of 25:58, which was the top Atlantic 10 finish by a freshman.
Scipio placed 28th of 266 runners and was also the top Atlantic 10 freshman finisher.
The Red and Blue return to action on Friday, Sept. 28 as they compete in the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh.
